The Mill

3 ensuite bedrooms (sleeps up to 8)

Escape the rat race...

The Mill is a truly unique property, a wonderful rural retreat set in its own private “barranco” (valley), surrounded by over a hectare of mature woodland and a constantly flowing river cascading down through the finca forming numerous natural pools which are perfect for cooling down in the heat of summer. The Mill house itself offers spacious accommodation over 3 levels and has been carefully restored over several years, retaining much of its rustic charm – the old mill workings and grinding stones are still there – while attention to detail is evident everywhere, with slate stone floors throughout and even LED lights in the bathroom floors and walls! Each of the 3 ensuite bedrooms have their own external entrances – one down beside the river, and the other two leading from a “tinao” – a feature of Alpujarran/Berber architecture which connects separate rooms. But the star of the show is water – the river, three fountains keeping the air cool, and of course, the swimming pool and hot tub.

We think The Mill will be a favourite for families and groups of friends who want to chill out in absolute privacy and wonderfully calming, tranquil surroundings.

And a telescope!!

Outside

Where to start?

The circular swimming pool is 6m in diameter, and is towards the top of the property, thus benefitting from spectacular open views to the south as well as all-day sunshine.

The hot tub is on a terrace outside the house, nestled beside a charming little cave. It can be heated to 40C in the winter.

There is a huge barbecue beside the house at the river side along with a large bench-type table for dining al fresco.

The breakfast terrace is outside the living room, with glass-top table and 6 chairs.

Take a dip in the natural plunge pool behind the house. Wonderful in high summer, bracing at any other time!

Cross the river over the little suspension bridge and take a stroll to the top of El Fuerte ("The Fort") - a rocky outpost with the remains of a 10th Century Moorish citadel, and a very colourful history!

Scattered throughout the several terraces are 6 sunloungers with tables - perfect if you want to find a quiet spot away from even other members of your party!

Wherever possible, we prefer guests at The Mill to arrive on a Saturday. We do understand that this may not always be suitable, so will try our best to be as flexible as we can. If we have a same-day changeover, we would ask guests to be ready to vacate the house by 10am.

Good to know...

All bed linen, towels (including beach towels and bathrobes for the pool and spa), are provided.

Internet and wifi connected

For guests arriving late at night, we offer a food shopping service so that the fridge is stocked before you arrive. There's no charge for this - we'll just give you the receipt when you arrive. For additional provisions, there are well-stocked grocers in Cadiar and Berchules - both just a few minutes away by car.

Both villages have bars serving tapas and a pharmacy, while Berchules has two good restaurants.

Walking in area is second-to-none, and we provide guests with a copy of Jeremy Rabjohn's "Holiday Walks in The Alpujarra" along with a detailed walking map which you can take with you whenever you're heading out.

Heating in winter is provided by oil-filled radiators and the wood-burning stove in the living room. A large stock of wood is provided, free of charge.

The Mill is a great place for children to have fun and explore (very Enid Blyton in fact!), but, while all steep drops and river walls are barriered, it may be unsuitable for very young children. There is a short walk down the valley from the car park (about 150m) to the house which will be unsuitable for the elderly or infirm. We will always be on hand to meet guests and help with luggage.
