Spending time at The Orange Grove is one of life’s pleasures. Go through the gates and you’re entering a different world. Our guests frequently tell us how staying in our holiday properties enables them to relax and de-stress from day one, and this is never more true than at The Orange Grove. With almost 300m2 of living space, the house is one of the grandest in the area, and radiates from a vine-covered central courtyard – itself a wonderful place to take yourself off to with a good book.

Once inside the main entrance hall, in one direction you find the main living accommodation with 3 en-suite bedrooms, and in the other, 2 further completely self-contained bedroom suites (casitas), each with their own living areas, bathrooms, kitchenettes and private, secluded patios. The casitas can also be accessed directly from the courtyard. This alone makes The Orange Grove one of the most versatile properties we’ve seen in The Alpujarra (and there have been a few!), allowing couples and friends within a group to have their own space and privacy to relax if they wish.

Find your way back to the main hallway, and this time take the door straight ahead of you. This is when you realise this house was designed for entertaining. A huge covered, chestnut-beamed “tinao” opens out onto a heated swimming pool and the garden. The view presented is simply stunning. Glance to the left and your eye is drawn to a “fuente” (fountain), behind which is the upper orchard of dozens of orange and lemon trees. Looming over the pool is a majestic, ancient olive tree (we’re told around 1000 years old – but whatever age it is, it’s great for kids to climb!). To the right, your gaze it drawn upwards, (..and up, and up!) as the mass of The Sierra Lujar rises dramatically only a few hundred yards in front of The Orange Grove. But it’s the bits in between that take your breath away. Hundreds of protected orange trees, interspersed with yet more ancient olives, fill the property to its boundaries in all directions, with little pathways winding through them – perfect to lose yourself for a sly nap in the heat of summer! In all, The Orange Grove is accommodated within 8,000m2 (2 acres) of splendid, gloriously lush, fertile land – easily one of the largest in the area.

So where exactly is this place? Incredibly, only a 20 minute stroll from Orgiva, with all its tourist amenities, down towards the Guadalfeo river in an area called Jaramuza (meaning “Moses’ lands”) past the pretty, closely-clustered little cortijos of the La Estrella suburb, and on a little further to where the land opens up to a very few larger estates secreted among vast olive and citrus groves. It’s a wonderful place to be in all seasons, and where you’ll find The Orange Grove.

Room by Room - Main House

Master bedroom upstairs, with twin beds locked together to form a huge 6' wide double bed. South and East facing. Bathroom with bath/shower, wash basin, bidet and WC. Outside to private roof terrace with fantasic panoramic views over the treetops to the Sierra Lujar.

Bedroom 2 with double bed. East facing, looking onto the garden and pool. Bathroom with shower, wash basin, bidet and WC.

Bedroom 3 with twin beds. Opens onto courtyard, thereby having it's own terrace. Bathroom with shower, wash basin and WC.

All bedrooms have wardrobes, drawers/shelves and fans.

Living/Dining Room with open fireplace, 3-seat and 2-seat leather sofas, and 2 leather armchairs. 32" flat screen satellite TV, DVD player (with a selection of DVDs), stereo, books and games. Dining table with 8 chairs.

Kitchen with electric oven, gas hob, large fridge/freezer, dishwasher, washing machine, microwave, toaster, kettle and, of course... a juicer!

"The Avocado Tree"

Bedroom with twin beds. Windows to south, west and north. Opens onto courtyard, facing Bedroom 3 of the Main House. TV/DVD player. Bathroom with shower, wash basin and WC.

Living area/Kitchenette with large sofabed, armchair and dining table. Kitchenette equipped with 2 electric rings, fridge, kettle and toaster. Opens onto private south-facing terrace - with an avocado tree!

"The Orange Tree"

Bedroom with double bed. South-facing window. Bathroom with shower, wash basin and WC.

Kitchenette with 2 electric rings, fridge, kettle and toaster.

Living Room with built-in sofa, arm chair and TV/DVD player. Opens onto private, south-facing terrace.

Outside

From the entrance hall, the chestnut-beamed "tinao" has built-in seating, as well as an outdoor dining table and 6 chairs. There is also comfortable cane terrace furniture with cushions.

The heated swimming pool is 9.5m x 4m, with a barriered shallow section for children. There are 6 sunloungers with tables. Covered pool terrace with table and chairs.

There are 2 further terraces, one outside the living room beside the fountain and barbecue, and the other behind the swimming pool, under the olive trees. Both have tables and chairs.

And finally, the orange grove - hundreds of citrus trees, which are in season usually from late December through to April or May. It goes without saying that you can help yourselves to as many as you can eat!! In late Spring, or early Summer, the trees are in blossom, and the fragrance filling the air is amazing.

Rental Rates - Main House

(Rental rates are per week, in Euros)

High Season (July and August)....€1400

The above prices are for 2009. For the remainder of 2008, a discount of €150 will be applied to the relevant rental period.

For bookings of 2 weeks or more, we offer an extremely generous 20% discount.

Rental Rates - Casitas

To add more space and privacy for members of your party, booking "The Avocado Tree" (in addition to the Main House) costs €220 per week.

To book both "The Avocado Tree" and "The Orange Tree" - the entire property, in other words, add €350.

Don't forget, the 20% discount for bookings of 2 weeks or more applies to the Casitas as well, and the discount is applied to total for the fortnight - not merely the 2nd week. So, for example, to book the entire property in September 2008, the cost would be €2240, calculated as follows: (€1050 + €350) x 2 = €2800 less 20% (€560) = €2240.

PLEASE NOTE: The Casitas will never be rented separately from The Main House. Guests will have exclusive use of the entire property, no matter how much of the house is booked. The Casitas will simply be locked if not in use.

Booking Information and Changeover Days

We accept a 20% deposit at the time of booking. The balance is paid upon arrival at The Orange Grove.

We will try to be as flexible as possible according to our guests' preferred arrival days. If we have a same-day changeover day, we ask guests to be ready to leave by 10am.

Good to know...

All bed linen and towels (including beach towels and bathrobes for the pool) are provided.

The Orange Grove is centrally heated throughout, and we will supply firewood in winter, free of charge.

The local market town of Orgiva is only a few minutes' drive in the car for shopping, or about 20 minutes on foot. The town has numerous shops, bars, restaurants, pharmacy and a great weekly market every Thursday.

Walking in area is second-to-none, and we provide guests with a copy of Jeremy Rabjohn's "Holiday Walks in The Alpujarra" along with a detailed walking map which you can take with you whenever you're heading out.
